I wanted to explore and photograph my understanding of what ‘Pure Consciousness’ is.
I commissioned the mask in 2003, ideally i wanted it made out of glass and yet couldn't find anyone who had the expertise, so the mask was made out of resin. The mask reflects all that is around it, as with all mirrors it accepts All, without judgement, it simply reflects back what 'is', and interestingly (as mirrors do) it not only acts like a magnet for light it also amplifies this light... hence their use in cameras, telescopes, etc.
Pure consciousness I believe does the same - it has the potential to attract light and magnify that light (light for me is synonymous with love, radiance, life and beauty) - a consciousness without judgement, simply reflecting and being 'what is'.
A number of these images were taken by the light of a full moon, with the mask placed in water - it seemed natural (if not a bit strange) after-all we are mostly water, and the moon another mirror (of light) - thus, a reflection, of a reflection, of a reflection, on we go.
